Puppy Essentials Guide

Making the decision to add a little puppy to your family is a big responsibility. They need love, attention, and a few essential items.

We will provide you with a puppy goodie bag when you pick your fluffy pal up, but there will be other items you still should prepare and have ready at home.

Collar/Harness & Leash

No matter which you prefer, you’ll need something to walk your active puppy. Plus they need something to hold their ID tag, just in case they decide to take an unsupervised stroll. We will provide a basic collar and tag for your puppy but eventually you’ll need a bigger size, and you’ll probably want one that fits your pups personality!

Something extra to consider: Car Harness

While your puppy should be just fine with a passenger holding them on the way home, if you plan to travel with them frequently, a car harness may be a good investment. Safety is so important when traveling!

Here’s some great options:

Leash:

Kennel & Dog Bed

After a long day of playing, your puppy will need somewhere safe to rest. Make sure to have some kind of crate and bed to give them their own little room to sleep. They also need a safe place to stay while you are away during the day, so a crate with a latch is a great idea. Your Golden may get him/herself into some trouble while you are gone, if not!

Water & Food Bowls

Your growing fluff ball will need something to hold their food and water. Don’t forget to have one ready to go for when your pup gets to their new home. While your puppy is a new member of the family, you probably dont want them using your fine china for dining.

Food

We will provide you with a sample size of food that our puppies are used to when you pick them up, but you’ll have to decide what your puppy will be eating every day after that runs out.

We recommend Purina Pro Plan for your puppy!

Toys

In your puppy “go home” bag, we’ll pack a toy and blanket that smell like their mom and siblings, to help them adjust and give them comfort. But we know your growing puppy will want lots of other toy options to chase down.

Here’s some of our favorites:

Brush, Nail Clippers, & Shampoo

Everyone needs a good pampering, your puppy included. It’s a great idea to start young and help your puppy get used to taking baths, so pick out a puppy shampoo and get them smelling all nice and clean. A good pair of dog nail clippers or a dog nail file is a good investment, if your puppy stays in the house often, your floors will thank you. Goldens are also fluffy little angels, so you’ll have to brush out their coat!

Bonus item: A lint roller

Shedding is inevitable, if your puppy is inside most of the days, a lint roller of some type might be good to have before bringing them home!

Poop Bags/Poop Scooper

As much as we’d love to not have to, dealing with dog poop is just part of owning a dog. Unless you enjoy walking through your yard like special ops avoiding landmines… you probably want something to pick up these smelly gifts from your Golden. Poop bags work just fine, but a standing poop scooper/grabber may be preferable. If you take your puppy to parks for exercise, a to go dispenser of poop bags would be great to have on hand!

There are plenty of other things you can provide your puppy, but these items are things you should have at home waiting for your new family member to arrive!
